In partnership with World Food Program USA, Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye and the XO Humanitarian Fund has reportedly donated $1 million to various nonprofit organizations combatting the devastating wildfires raging throughout southern California, including the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Foundation, GoFund Me’s Wildfire Relief Fund and the Los Angeles Regional Bank.
The Weeknd was previously scheduled to perform at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles, California on Saturday, January 25 and release a new album called Hurry Up, Tomorrow. As wildfires continue to spread throughout southern California, The Weeknd has elected to delay the release of his forthcoming LP and cancel his concert.
“Out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County, i am canceling the Rose Bowl concert originally scheduled for January 25th,” The Weeknd stated.
“This city has always been a profound source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone impacted during this difficult time. In light of this, i have also decided to push the release of my album to January 31st. My focus remains on supporting the recovery of these communities and aiding its incredible people as they rebuild.”
The Weeknd is a part of a growing group of entertainers looking to help residents of Los Angeles and the surrounding towns who have been impacted by the growing disaster. Beyoncé recently donated $2.5 million to those impacted by the wildfires through her nonprofit, BeyGOOD. Taylor Swift is also providing support for the California Community Foundation Fund and Direct Relief.
