The league has announced the participants for the 2020 NBA All-Star 3-Point Contest, with a few household names in addition to some newcomers. The full list is as follows:
Devonte’ Graham, Charlotte Hornets
Zach LaVine, Chicago Bulls
Duncan Robinson, Miami Heat
Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks
Buddy Hield, Sacramento Kings
Davis Bertans, Washington Wizards
Joe Harris, Brooklyn Nets
Damian Lillard, Portland Trail Blazers
Nets sharpshooter Joe Harris will defend his title against some of the NBA’s very best, including the scorching hot Damian Lillard. Harris, who was cast off by a few franchises before settling in as a key contributor for Brooklyn, has quite the backstory. Graham, too, has come out of nowhere to be one of the most improved players in the NBA.
The format of the contest is changing, per Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press. There will be two additional deep shots that are worth three points, meaning there will be 27 shots overall instead of the traditional 25. The onset of long-range shots from Lillard and Young (and really, Steph Curry) made this deep ball even possible. Specifically, the extra shots are six feet behind the 3-point line. It will surely be interesting to see how the additional shots impact the final score, especially since so many of the contestants have displayed ridiculous range in-game.
