Houston Rockets Guard Kevin Porter Jr. has been arrested and charged with assault and strangulation. Members of the New York Police Department reportedly took Porter Jr. into custody at the Millennium Hotel in Times Square and remained in custody at the city’s 17th precinct in Manhattan as of early Monday afternoon.
“We are in the process of gathering information surrounding the matter involving Kevin Porter Jr.,” a statement from the Houston Rockets reads.
“We have no further comment at this time.”
Porter Jr.’s arrest stems from an alleged incident that occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 11 at the aforementioned Millennium Hotel. According to a report from Jason Owens of Yahoo! Sports, Porter Jr. attempted to return to the room he is believed to have been sharing with his girlfriend and WNBA free agent, Kysre Gondrezick. Gondrezick was allegedly “upset about his late return and locked him out of the room.” The Houston Rockets guard eventually gained access to the room and allegedly assaulted the former Indiana Fever point guard.
“Upon arrival officers were informed that a 26-year-old female sustained a laceration to the right side of her face and was complaining about pain to her neck,” an NYPD spokesperson said, according to ABC News.
“A preliminary investigation on scene determined that a known individual struck her multiple times upon her body and placed his hands around the neck.”
Porter Jr. nor Gondrezick has issued a statement as of Monday afternoon.
