It’s official! After months of debate and negotiation, Eddie Hearn and Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions have made the fight that we have all hoped to see for some time now. Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor will square off at Madison Square Garden on April 30, 2022.
“See it, believe it, achieve it! This is the moment that changes everything, The world will stop on April 30th and watch the undisputed World Champion Katie Taylor face the seven division world [champion Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden,” Hearn tweeted.
Taylor enters the fight as a national hero and one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. Holding a record of 20-0 with six knockouts, she is currently the undisputed lightweight champion of the world. She last fought at Madison Square Garden in 2019 on the night that Andy Ruiz won the heavyweight title. However, this will be her first time headlining an event at the historic venue.
“I wasn’t sure if it was going to be possible, but for this fight to headline at Madison Square Garden would truly be the pinnacle of the sport,” Taylor told ESPN.
“So much of boxing’s history is linked to MSG, and I’ve been fortunate enough to fight there already on a couple of occasions.”
Taylor’s opponent, Amanda Serrano, also enters the bout as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. She will enter the ring with a record of 42-1-1 and a 10-year winning streak. Much like Taylor, she last fought at Madison Square Garden in 2019, but she has never headlined a fight card in Manhattan.
“We are making history for women all around the world,” Serrano tweeted.
