It has now been more than a week since the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota first sparked protests across the map. Tonight, demonstrators headed to the streets yet again to express their frustrations with police brutality, racism, income inequality and much more. In response, a number of city officials have enforced curfews in an effort to corral protesters. Exercising their right to protest, a number of demonstrators continued to protest well after curfew in the big apple. However, things quickly turned south.
Shortly before midnight, reports emerged out of the nation’s largest city as thousands of New York residents claimed to be trapped on the Manhattan Bridge by police. Authorities looking to enforce the city’s temporary 8 p.m. curfew reportedly blocked both exits of the bridge. Overhead, news helicopters hovered above the surreal scene. Protesters stayed on the bridge for a bit more than hour before peacefully making their way off.
What? No. This is dangerous.

The tense standoff caught the eye of local congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who quickly responded on Twitter.
“What? No. This is dangerous. I’m heading there now,” she tweeted.
The bridge standoff extended into other parts of the city. One notable standoff involved protesters reciting the lyrics to “Move” by Ludacris.
With protests nearing their second weekend, it appears that curfews and the like will continue.
History book paragraph:
“At the height of the 2020 protests against police brutality New York City residents chanted Ludacris’ “Move bitch, get out the way” to the NYPD in a stand off.”
