Here’s my unsolicited opinion about Michael Jackson’s legacy. Thriller is undoubtedly the peak of the Gary, Indiana native’s commercial success, but Bad was the more impressive album. I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s a better album, but it is truly difficult to release a body of work as impressive as Bad while carrying the expectations that arise after releasing an album like Thriller. This is a long, drawn out way of saying that it’s harder to maintain success than achieve it. It’s why the sophomore slump is so common and why many sports teams can’t repeat after winning their first ring. After releasing one of the most impressive R&B albums of 2021 and sitting down with Def Pen for an interview, Joyce Wrice is back and looking to elevate her career after her outstanding run last year.
Joyce Wrice is back with her first single of the new year and she is going big. Not long after working with Grammy-winning producer Kaytranada on Overgrown, the California native has united with the super producer for a new track called “Iced Tea.” With production that is as carefree and confident as she is, Wrice effortlessly floats over the soulful dance soundscape created by Kaytranada.
“Feel good when you’re living like me/Can’t fuck with a woman like me/Lemon slice in your sugar iced tea/Feels good when you’re living carefree,” she sings.
“Iced Tea” sets up what will be an incredible run for the emerging vocalist this summer. Not only has she provided the theme song for The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, but she is also heading out on tour with Lucky Daye. Not to mention, she’s also set to perform at this year’s Broccoli City Festival in the nation’s capital. For now, check out “Iced Tea” with Kaytranada below.
