Jake Paul has found an opponent for his Madison Square Garden debut on August 6, 2022. The YouTube star turned professional fighter will reportedly share the ring with Tommy Fury at the world’s most famous arena.
The two fighters are no unfamiliar with each other’s work. In fact, Paul was originally scheduled to fight Fury in December. However. Fury pulled out of the fight with an undisclosed injury. Instead, former UFC Welterweight Champion Tyrone Woodley stepped up to the challenge. Paul was able to stop Woodley in the sixth round to earn his fifth professional victory.
“I wasn’t sure I was going to say yes to another potential matchup against Tommy after he pulled out of our matchup last year,” Paul shared in a press release, according to ESPN.
“But ultimately, knocking out a Fury was too appealing to pass up.”
Fury enters this summer’s showdown with a professional record of 8-0 with four knockouts. Despite facing lackluster opposition throughout his career, Fury presents a new challenge for Paul. The YouTube star turned professional fighter has never fought another pro boxer with an undefeated record. Fury believes that he has what it takes to do what others have failed to do.
“The Paul brothers’ boxing charade is about to come to an end once and for all,” Fury said.
“I am a boxer. My opponent plays boxing. Jake Paul has been dressed up to look like a boxer against retirees from other sports. On August 6, I will show the world that he does not belong in the ring.”
The eight-round cruiserweight bout is set for August 6, 2022 on Showtime PPV.
