Kamaru Usman is set to make his next title defense against Leon Edwards on August 20, 2022 at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah. Hosted in partnership with the Utah Sports Commission and Smith Entertainment Group, the welterweight showdown will be broadcast on ESPN via pay-per-view.
Kamaru Usman enters this summer’s match looking for his 20th consecutive victory. During his run to the top of the men’s pound-for-pound rankings, Usman has made it a habit to be his challengers not once, but twice. Over the years, he’s defeated Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal twice. Now, he will have an opportunity to defeat Edwards for the second time in his career. Previously, the Nigerian fighter took down Edwards by unanimous decision in December 2015.
Despite being beaten in their first fight, Edwards is confident that he’ll have more success against Usman this time around. Since December 2015, Edwards has won 10 consecutive fights. Along the way, he toppled Nate Diaz, Rafael Dos Anjos and Vicente Luque. Now, he’ll have an opportunity to win his first UFC title.
Tickets for the long-awaited showdown will go on sale on June 24, 2022.
