Lightweight champion Katie Taylor has reportedly found an opponent for her next boxing match. Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated has reported that negotiations are ongoing for a potential bout between Taylor and MMA star Cris Cyborg. No deal has been reached as of now, but both sides are pursuing a December date at an unidentified location.
Taylor is also looking to plan a major bout for next year as well. Mannix also reports that Taylor and company are looking to finalize a deal for a rematch with Serrano in the spring. However, Serrano nor Most Valuable Promotions have commented on the matter as of yet.
In the meantime, Serrano has made plans to return to Madison Square Garden in August. On August 6, she will defend the WBC, WBO, and IBO female featherweight titles against Brenda Carabajal. It is unclear if she will look to fight in December as well.
Elsewhere in the world of women’s boxing, the sport will close out the year strong with Alycia Baumgardner-Mikaela Mayer and Savannah Marshall-Claress Shields. By many standards, this will be remembered as one of the strongest years the sport has ever had.
Negotiations are ongoing for @KatieTaylor to face MMA star @CrisCyborg in a boxing match, sources told @SInow. No deal yet, but the hope is for for Taylor to face Cyborg in December — and then move forward with a rematch against Amanda Serrano in Ireland next spring.
