Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is looking to take his show on the road. During a recent interview, Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn revealed that Alvarez is eyeing a December fight in London. According to Michael Benson of talkSPORT, Hearn has identified the following light heavyweight contenders as potential opponents: Joshua Butasi and Craig Richards.
Prior to Alvarez’s London debut in December, he must get by his next two opponents. First, he’s set to challenge Dmitry Bivol in May for his light heavyweight title. Then, he’s expected to defend his undisputed super middleweight titles against unified middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin.
If Alvarez is able to win his next three fights, it is expected that he will campaign to become the undisputed light heavyweight champion. As previously mentioned, Alvarez is favored to beat Bivol and win a quarter of the light heavyweight championship. Meanwhile, Artur Beterbiev and Joe Smith Jr. are expected to fight for three-fourths of the light heavyweight title at Madison Square Garden. The winner of each of the two previously mentioned fights could face off in an undisputed title fight in 2023.
