Secure the bag! Oscar and Emmy-nominated director Lisa Cortés has signed a first-look deal with Blue Ant Studios.
Under the deal, Cortés has already developed a documentary about voter suppression called All In: The Fight For Democracy. Deadline also reports that Cortés will produce a docuseries about Clover Hope’s book The Motherlode: The 100+ Women Who Made Hip-Hop. The project will examine the life and careers of Missy Elliott, Lizzo, Lauryn Hill and Roxanne Shanté. Rounding the slate of Cortés’ upcoming projects, Blue Ant Studios is also working to develop a new scripted series called No Retreat that examines Black and Indigenous soldiers fighting in World War II.
“Throughout my career, I have been passionate about telling complex, powerful stories from new perspectives,” Cortés told Deadline.
“This collaboration with a company leading in dynamic, impactful genre-spanning content is exciting, and I look forward to developing a diverse slate of scripted and unscripted projects with the Blue Ant team.”
Beyond her work with Blue Ant Studios, Cortés will also lead an upcoming documentary about Little Richard called Little Richard: I Am Everything.
