Nearly a decade after the release of Tomi Adeyemi’s best-selling literary debut, an adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone is headed to the big screen with a star-studded cast that includes Amandla Stenberg, Viola Davis, Damson Idris, Idris Elba, Regina King, and Cynthia Erivo. Backed by a cinematic edition of Beyoncé’s “Energy,” the nearly three-minute trailer takes viewers into the heart of a kingdom full of twists and turns. At the center of this epic is Zelie, played by Thuso Mbedu, and King Saran, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor. Under Saran’s unyielding rule, magic is not allowed in the kingdom of Orïsha, but Zelie is on a mission to change that. Will she rise to the challenge, or fall to the reign of the king or is the outcome more complex than can be captured in a trailer?
