On Saturday, July 6, boxing will return to Brick City as Shakur Stevenson defends the WBC Lightweight Championship against Artem Harutyunyan. The lightweight championship bout will be complemented by a lightweight contest featuring Keyshawn Davis and the latest defense O’Shaquie Foster’s super featherweight title. However, that’s not enough for Top Rank. The Bob Arum-led promotional imprint has upgraded the latest outing for lightweight prospect Abdullah Mason to the televised portion of the event.
Opening the ESPN broadcast, the 20-year-old will put his unblemished record of 13-0 with 11 knockouts on the line as he steps into the ring with Luis Lebron. While many fans expect Mason to dominate the bout, Lebron poses the toughest test of the prospect’s blossoming career.
“My opponent has as many knockouts as I have fights,” Mason said at Thursday’s press conference.
“So, we’re ready for whatever he brings. He’s coming to win. He’s going to let his hands go.”
With that said, the Top Rank fighter expects he and his team will get the job done “like always.”
“We’ve just been focused,” Mason continued.
“Training in the gym prepares you to be under those lights. So, we’ve been preparing. Every time we step in the ring, we’re preparing to step under those lights.”
