Nick Kyrgios may not play in the upcoming Australian Open due to injury, but he does plan to be in attendance. Instead of taking to the tennis court, he’ll spend time with ESPN talent in the broadcast booth. The 2022 Wimbledon Finalist has secured a guest commentator role with the network for the upcoming tennis tournament.
“I recently hinted that I would have some special things planned for the Australian Open and this is one of them,” he said.
“I love watching tennis and to be able to break down matches on live television, for ESPN, in Australia, I almost couldn’t ask for anything better.”
Kyrgios is uniquely acquainted with the Australian Open. Not only has he won a men’s doubles title at the tournament, but he also grew up in the nation’s capital city, Canberra. Now, he’ll return for a broadcast homecoming.
“On behalf of ESPN, we are thrilled to have Nick join the on-air team in Australia. He brings an electric mix of experience and enthusiasm and pedigree and passion for tennis,” Mark Gross of ESPN added.
“His candor and genuine rapport with fans, and his first-hand knowledge facing some of the players he’ll be commenting on, promise to inject a dynamic and authentic edge to our 2024 Australian Open coverage.”
The 2024 Australian Open will begin January 14 and run through January 28. Defending champion Novak Djokovic enters the tournament as the favorite to win the men’s bracket while Iga ?wi?tek is favored to win the women’s field.
