MTV has announced that the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards will return to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn this September. For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic took hold of the nation in early 2020, the VMAs will be greeted by a live audience.
“[The 2021 MTV VMAs] will feature epic performances from the biggest names in music and bring fans together from across the globe to celebrate the return of live entertainment,” a release from MTV reads.
“Barclays Center are working closely with state and local officials to implement best practices in order to safely bring together music fans from around the globe.”
In addition to working with city officials to abide by COVID-19 protocols, MTV is also working with the nonprofit organization, 9/11 Day, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11. Leading up to the award show, MTV and 9/11 Day will host a series of events to inspire viewers to do good deeds in honor of those who lost their lives on that day.
The 2021 MTV Video Music Awards are set to air on September 12, 2021 on MTV. Stay tuned for a full list of nominees and the announcement of their ceremony’s host.
