The Baltimore Ravens selected Breshad Perriman in the first round of this year’s draft in hope that he could replace Torrey Smith who departed this offseason via free agency. Perriman will of course not be handed the job as third-year wideout Kamar Aiken has been the starter throughout camp so far. With training camp around the corner Perriman hopes he can turn the tide in his favor.
“It’s a goal of mine, but at the same time, it’s not really on my mind,” Perriman said after minicamp, via the Baltimore Sun. “I’m just really trying to focus on getting better every day, just going out there, take it day by day and see how it plays out.
“I just take it day by day, try to not think about the starting job or anything like that, because I feel like I’d get thrown off track.”
The Ravens have been impressed with Perriman so far as evidence by their reaction in the rookie mini-camp video’s. Joe Flacco has also been impressed with the young buck. Baltimore also has high hopes for 6th round pick Darren Waller and third year pro Marlon Brown as there will be an intense competition to say the least. If Perriman wants to lock down the starting job he must show more consistency with his hands.
“I really just talk to myself,” Perriman said. “It’s really all mental. I talk to myself, tell myself the things that I need to do to complete those passes and just try to step it up a notch more.”
Expect the rookie to grab the starting gig when it’s all said and done. The rookie who ran a 4.22, 40 during his pro day has a chance to become the offensive rookie of the year if he can successful take over Torrey Smith’s spot. Check out all three mini-camp video’s below.
