Former Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith has agreed to a free agent deal with the San Francisco 49ers. A five year, 40 million dollar deal will land the speedy wide out in San Fran. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick shared his excitement on twitter.
“@Kaepernick7: Unite the dogs……. then let them loose! anquanboldin @torreysmithwr#7tormsCominghttps://t.co/QZyboVYYlY” LETS GET IT!

Anquan Boldin may have lent a huge recruiting pitch to Smith during free agency. Boldin won a Superbowl title in 2012 with the Ravens before being traded to San Francisco. Now the two will be reunited out west. The move also certainly ends the Niners tenure of Michael Crabtree. Smith was considered a must have after the numerous 49ner departures thus far.
The Torrey Smith departure has to be disappointing to Raven fans. I am however surprised Torrey did not take the hometown discount. It was reported the Ravens offer of a 5 year, 35 million dollar deal only fell one million shy per season. Smith grew up in Maryland so it was shocking an extra million per season was something to gripe over. Smith even went as far as announcing his Raven departure two days before agreeing to a contract elsewhere. Torrey wrote a heart felt letter to the entire Raven community. The Ravens will have some work to do in addressing Smith’s replacement. Malcolm Brown, Kamar Aiken, and Michael Campanaro are the current internal options.
