The New Orleans Saints not only suffered a tough loss at the hands of the Detroit Lions on Sunday, but they also lost their starting quarterback in the process.
During the fourth quarter of the Saints’ showdown with the Lions, Carr was hit by Detroit’s Bruce Irvin after throwing a pass. Irvin was penalized for roughing the passer, but the damage was done. Carr was carted off the field and listed as doubtful to return due to the league’s concussion protocol. ESPN also reports that Carr may be examined for potential injuries to his shoulder and back.
In Carr’s absence, Jameis Winston stepped in as the team’s quarterback. The former Florida State University quarterback completed two of his five pass attempts for 41 yards. However, it was not enough as the Lions beat the Saints by a score of 33-28.
With the win, the Lions improve to 9-3 on the season while New Orleans falls to 5-7. The Lions hold a three game lead over the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North while the Saints fall further behind the Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings in the race for a Wildcard spot.
