Mike Tyson has seemingly announced that he and Lennox Lewis will fight in September. Tyson shared the news with TMZ earlier this week.
“I’m gonna fight Lennox Lewis…September,” he told TMZ as he left CATCH in Los Angeles, California on Tuesday night.
This is not the first time the two have hinted at fighting each other post-retirement. In February, Lewis told TMZ that he would step in the ring with the former heavyweight champion “if the public wanted it.”
Lewis and Tyson also stepped into the rings as professionals. Nineteen years ago, Lewis knocked Tyson out in the eighth round of the penultimate bout of his professional career. Since then, Tyson has spent his time hosting his own podcast and performing in Las Vegas, Nevada. Meanwhile, Lewis has played in the World Series of Poker, earned an honorary doctorate in Ontario and helped out with televised boxing coverage from time to time.
If the two were to step back in the ring, Tyson would certainly be the fresher fight. He last fought in November against Roy Jones Jr. However, Lewis will come with the experience of being one of the greatest heavyweights of all time. In his career, he earned victories against Riddick Bowe, Evander Holyfield and of course, Tyson.
At this time, neither a location or a specific date has been determined.
