Marvel Studios is ready to get wild in Phase 4 and beyond. That is, according to a report from SlashFilm that details Marvel’s plans for an animated What If series. It is reportedly based on the popular Marvel Comics series of the same name.
What If served as a way for creators to tell stories without having to worry about the overarching continuity. Each issue covered a different story with topics ranging from What If Spider-Man Joined the Fantastic Four to What If the Original Marvel Bullpen Became the Fantastic Four. The Disney+ series will follow a similar format.
Every episode will focus on a different ‘What if’ scenario with everyone’s favorite heroes. The hope is for the main MCU cast to reprise their roles for the series. This bodes well for fans of Captian America and Iron Man as they both seem poised to exit the main continuity in Avengers: Endgame. However, with outlandish stories and significantly less commitment than appearing on-camera, this What If series could see Tony Stark or Steve Rogers return should they perish in Endgame.
This is just the latest series reportedly in development from Marvel. A live-action series based on Tom Hiddleston’s Loki is well into development. There are also series on the way revolving are the duos of the Scarlett Witch and the Vision, as well as Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Not many details have been released on the films. Considering the shroud of secrecy around any post-Endgame content it’s unlikely we’ll hear more until Comic-Con later this summer.
No word yet on the series’ release date.
