Class is back in session. On Monday, August 17, 2026, Netflix debuted the first trailer for its revival of A Different World.

Nearly 40 years after A Different World debuted, Netflix will make its way back to Hillman College for the highly anticipated revival of the iconic series. Whitley Gilbert and Dwayne Wayne will be at the heart of the series, as they were in the original, but this time they will be the parents of the lead character, their daughter, Deborah, a freshman at the fictional HBCU. The heir to the throne at Hillman will have to find her own way at the college, building friendships, navigating challenges, and perhaps falling in love. Along the way, Netflix will introduce its audience to a cast of young actors like Alijah Kai, Cornell Young IV, Kennedi Reece, Jordan Aaron Hall and Chibuikem Uche, who are integral to this revival. Not to mention, the likes of Darryl M. Bell, Debbie Allen, Cree Summer, Jenifer Lewis and Jada Pinkett Smith will also return to Hillman and reprise their roles from the original.
