Ya know what time it is, better yet y’all know what day it is, WEDNESDAY. It is Wear Your Kicks Wednesday just like it has been for the past 6 weeks if you have been oblivious to what has been going on. #WYKW is the hashtag and I am pretty sure by now you’ve stumbled across it or have seen it on your TL at some point of the day on twitter.
Anyways the recaps have been caught up on so all order has been restored, I hate being behind on stuff because catching up is worst than waiting last minute to do something.
Last week I shared with you guys two of the kicks I purchased around Easter being since it was Easter sunday prior to #WYKW it was only right. If you happened to miss “Wear Your Kicks Pt. 6” or the #WYKW Recap 4/23/14 click the associated links and get yourself familiar.
This week I decided I might as well go ahead and share a purchase which involved my Girlfriend again just like the story for the Air Jordan 3 Retro “True Blues”.
I might just dubbed this story “His and Hers” even though getting my pair was the most difficult of the two, no surprise here once you guys find out which kicks it is.
Lets get right into it…
As we all have become aware of by now Jordan Brand releases the beloved Air Jordan 11 Retro during the Christmas holiday. The prior Christmas which was 2011 the Air Jordan 11 Retro “Concord” released (Going to save this story for another time) so the anticipation of what will release for the Christmas time of 2012 would bring.
The news that the classic “Bred” or Black/Red or to be politically correct, “Playoff” color way of the Air Jordan 11 Retro was going to be the 11’s to release all hell broke loose. Around this time I was living in Jersey so I figured I take my luck with trying to secure my pair as well as my girl’s pair out there instead of dealing with NYC. Also I was working for UPS at the time so this added to the mission on how I would get them.
Started to search all the nearby footlockers and the nearest mall by me was not getting any major releases due to violence that ensued the prior year due to the “Concords” (someone was stabbed, smh). SO I found out there was Foot Locker a few blocks from my crib doing a ticket only release so that was my best bet.
So the release date was 12/21 and they gave tickets the week prior I honestly don’t remember the exact day but I knew I would have to go to work and wouldn’t be able to wait on line for long to get a ticket. So when I got to the line there was at least 10-15 people there. Now I know you are probably thinking thats not bad but let me clarify somethings this wasn’t a big Foot Locker so their stock wasn’t that big.
When I got there I immediately went to work asking people their shoe sizes and trying to figure out the odds I get my size (12). So come to find out there was family there for like 3 days already and that put a damper on my chance but none of them needed my size. So I figured hey let me see if they will let me get in line where they are and sure enough they did.
This was a shocker because nothing like this would have ever happened in NYC. Now for the next task at hand, I was NOT trying to wait online until the next day for 1pm to come because thats when Foot Locker planned on giving out the tickets. SO again I came up with an idea I asked the kid in front of me to exchange numbers and if he can hold my spot.
This was a gamble because I know how people are with holding spots so I texted him periodically to make sure I was good.
Morning came and I went back to the Foot Locker and my spot was still good but apparently I almost lost my spot because someone offered to buy it for $200 and the kid turned it down. He’s a better man than me because I would have sold that in a heartbeat LOL.
So eventually I got my ticket for my size 12 and the only thing left was making it back the day of the release to get my girlfriends size which was a first come first serve release, thats how it usually is for kids. I showed up at like 6:30 and was able to get her pair which happened to be the only size 7 in the store because the other went to a female employee.
I would say the moral of the story is something but I’m gonna keep it real I don’t have one this time LOL.
Until next time.. I’m out!
Remember its 2014 stop tying your shoes, grow up.
