Shaquille O’Neal may have retired from playing professional basketball, but he is still making an impact on the sport. The Turner Sports personality has been named the next president of basketball at Reebok.
“When I joined the brand back in ’92, never did I think I’d be sitting where I am today. This is a true full-circle moment for me, and I couldn’t be more proud or more excited. I’ve had a lot of different roles in my life, but this one truly is probably the most special,” O’Neal told Marc Griffin of VIBE.
O’Neal is not the only basketball legend to take a position with the athletic brand. Former NBA MVP Allen Iverson currently holds the position of vice president of basketball at Reebok. The former competitors will team up to bring the “very best” out of the brand.
“In this role, I’ll be doing anything and everything I can to help bring Reebok back to its rightful place in basketball,” O’Neal explained to Griffin.
“It’ll be a little bit of everything, but what I’m best at is making connections, so I’ll play a major role in player partnerships and development to help validate the brand’s credibility in the game.”
