“I’ll be fly when Easters over”. Jay Z probably has a line for any possible situation in life, lol.
Whats good y’all, I’m back again for another installment in the Kickin’ It With Def Pen: Wear Your Kicks series bringing you Part 6.
Last week I returned from my little hiatus to showcase my girlfriend and I Air Jordan 3 Retro “True Blues” especially since it was the week Jordan Brand was unveiling the Air Jordan XX9.
If you so happen to have missed last weeks installment, check it out here.
This week I figured since Easter just passed why not share an Easter purchase with you guys and YES I do have one.
This specific purchase includes two shoes by the way, The Nike Zoom KD 4 “Easter” and Nike LeBron 9 “Cannon”. Now I know what you guys are thinking, “The ‘Cannons’ didn’t release around Easter” yes I know but you have to continue to read this story to find out what exactly happened.
Before we get into this story though I would like to extended the invite to you guys to feel free to submit your own stories as well as pictures to keep the Wear Your Kicks installment going. I could simply continue to talk about my kicks but the Def Pen Staff and I would love to see you guys get involved.
Now with that being said lets get into this story.
It was April 6th, 2012 and the countdown to my birthday was at 5 days remaining. At this point in my life I was no longer working at Footlocker, I was currently working for JP Morgan Chase in Brooklyn.
I was seeing a nice little piece of change and of course I was blowing it all on kicks (Kicks Ova Everything or nah?).
I had developed this particular fascination with Nike Zoom KD 4’s. I wanted every color way so with the Nike Basketball Easter Collection releasing my eyes were set on the KD’s. Also they were $95 so how could you beat that?
Here is the issue already though, I had to make sure I got my pair which required me to wait on line early in the morning before work. Remember I was working in Brooklyn and I was trying to get my pair from HoH on 34th in Manhattan.
Morning releases were generally at 7-7:30 and I had to be to work at 8. This wasn’t a great idea but I didn’t care. I mean I did but you know.
So I got my pair and made it to work, late of course but it was not that bad like 10-15 minutes plus my supervisor was dumb cool he asked me to see the kicks and all.
NOW lets fast forward a little bit, around lunch time. My boy Kirk had been trying to get in contact with all day and I finally got a chance to see what was up.
Let me give you guys a quick back story, The Nike LeBron 9 “Cannon” was a shoe I missed due to being a “Part-time, broke” Footlocker employee BUT I could have gotten a pair because the store next door to Footlocker on Fordham had put their pairs up on display for sale early by mistake before they got pushed back, damn I should have copped.
ANYWAY back to the phone conversation with Kirk. He had told me he picked up a pair of Cannons and I was livid! After about 5-10 minutes he finally coughed up the info on where he copped.
Apparently a sneaker store, “Basics” who we were familiar with that is in Bay Plaza in the Bronx had restocked. So me, thirsty and basically way too excited to try my luck and get a pair decided to call them.
I called and put my pair on hold (something a lot of stores don’t do anymore).
Now here is where things get interesting. It is like 80 degrees that day and if you were paying attention I said I was in Brooklyn, Bay Plaza is like on the other side of the world (not literally) but its far.
It took me at least 2 and a half hours to get there by PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. Talk about determination but I got my pair.
Take a quick look at some of my pictures and as you can see these aren’t dead stock.
It’s 2014, let your kicks breathe, stop tying your shoes. Swag it out. I’m out!
