Subscription service Hulu is mulling over the idea of adding a new subscription option.
The new option will be a more expensive package, but will be without commercials.
In addition to maintaining its current $7.99 version with ads, Hulu would make a second version available for a price around $12-$14.
While that price point would be more expensive than most SVOD options in the U.S. marketplace, the logic behind the move is that would avoid siphoning away the 9 million subscribers already paying for the current version.
The new offering would help Hulu compete with its rivals, Netflix and Amazon Prime- both of which already offer commercial free subscriptions.
In the past, Hulu has been criticized for requiring for subs to pay but sit through ads, which could be the reason for the interest in a new subscription.
