HBO has a major schedule of programming set for the next few months. Issa Rae is set to roll out the final season of Insecure while Adam McGruder develops a new season of The Boondocks. Headlining their upcoming lineup is a Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon. Given the built-in fan base from the original series, HBO expects a lot of eyeballs to follow every step of the show’s production. Responding to those avid fans, HBO executive Casey Bloys offered a brief update on the shows’ progress thus far.
“House of the Dragon is the only [Game of Thrones spinoff series] shooting,” Bloys told Variety.
“All the other ones are in various stages of development. People may think we have 10 series shooting at the moment. There’s one that will be on the air in 2022. We’ll see how the other scripts come along.”
House of the Dragon will take place following the “Dance of the Dragons,” the Targaryen civil war between Aegon II and Rhaenyra. The show is kicking off production in London before moving to other portions of Europe. It is set to air in 2022, but no exact date has been set yet.
