It’s time to go back to Australia! Boxing insider Mike Coppinger has reported that George Kambosos and Devin Haney will return to Australia for a second bout in October. The bout is expected to take place at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia and air on ESPN in a primetime telecast.
The fight will add another chapter to the ongoing battle for the undisputed lightweight title. Vasiliy Lomachenko captured the undisputed lightweight title by defeating Luke Campbell in 12 rounds on August 31, 2019 in London. Fourteen months later, Lomachenko suffered his second professional defeat at the hands of Teofimo Lopez. Shockingly, Lopez lost his undisputed title and endured his first professional defeat against Kambosos at the Hulu Theater last November. Lopez’s upset loss to George Kambosos allowed for Haney to travel to Sydney, Australia and take the title from him in a dominant 12-round decision. Despite the decisive fashion in which Kambosos lost, a rematch clause in the original contract requires Haney to return for a second bout.
With a record of 28-0 with 15 knockouts, Haney will enter the ring as a heavy favorite. Meanwhile, Kambosos will look to overcome the first defeat of his career and set himself up for major fights down the line.
