H.E.R. trades in the West Coast flair from the original version to an East Coast hip-hop infused remix to her single “Slide.”
The original release featured YG, with H.E.R. handling the vocals.
Newcomer Pop Smoke kicks off the sultry track, a different vibe than his usual Brooklyn-drill style. Pop Smoke sets his intentions rapping “I’m just trynna f*ck, not make love. If you trynna have kids, that’s a dub” exploring the no-strings-attached side of the situationship.
For Pop Smoke, this collaboration signals his hopeful mainstream crossover. He also recently appeared on the Cactus Jack compilation album JACKBOYS, rapping alongside Travis Scott and earning No. 1 placement on Billboard’s 200 chart. His breakout hit “Welcome To The Party” scored a Nicki Minaj Feature on the remix.
H.E.R. keeps the hook the same, on “Slide Remix” questioning when things will move to the next level. She herself does not add new lyrics to this song. Instead, her singing of the hook serves as an indication of a new artist being introduced.
A Boogie wit da Hoodie comes up second, professing his matched energy with his proposed lover. Chris Brown finishes the song with a brief, but effective rap verse as opposed to bringing his singing talents.
H.E.R. is set to perform during the 2020 Grammy awards, where she is nominated for ‘Album Of The Year’, ‘Record Of The Year’, and Best R&B Performance.’
