Gervonta “Tank” Davis is often compared to heavy-handed fighters like Mike Tyson due to his devastating power. In a recent interview with Showtime, Davis outlined the ways in which his style of fighting may differ from the former heavyweight champion.
“I feel that I’m more of a boxer-puncher,” Davis told Showtime.
“Like I said before, I think I do have more skills than Mike Tyson.”
The Baltimore native’s recent comments have little to do with Tyson in particular. In general, the WBA “Regular” Lightweight Champion feels that fighters at lower weight classes have a wider set of skills than fighters in the heavier weight divisions.
“When I say I have more skills than Mike Tyson, guys smarter than like at them lower weight classes always have more,” Davis continued.
“People think that I’m dissing Mike Tyson, I’m not dissing Mike Tyson for sure. Just the facts is facts.”
On the evening of April 22, 2023, he will have an opportunity to put his entire skill set on display when he enters the ring at T-Mobile Arena. The unbeaten champion will put his perfect record on the line against fellow unbeaten powerhouse Ryan Garcia. Hours before the final weigh-in, DraftKings Sportsbook lists Davis as a -245 favorite.
