There was no love lost during the final press conference featuring Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis. In an event that is usually filled with cliche statements and warm regards for sponsors and promoters, the two fighters vowed to break each other’s jaws.
“I only need one, too. I touch that jaw and I’m telling you: you’re going to sleep. I’m going to break your jaw, I promise you. Don’t even bring your mother or your daughter,” Davis told Garcia.
“I just need a single shot. Just one. This one. Trust me…The left hook. When I touch anything, you’re going to sleep. I feel like I’m gonna break your jaw with a hook. I just see you on the floor with a broken jaw,” Garcia fired back at Davis
Garcia and Davis were not the only people engaged in a war of words on Thursday afternoon. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya and Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe were also trading verbal shots at the microphone.
“When I look at Tank’s team’s actions throughout the promotion, I’m left to wonder, ‘Do they think he’s ready?’ Catchweights, rehydration clauses, late afternoon weigh-ins, all of these small, petty requirements, point to a team that looks to protect their fighter,” De La Hoya said.
“You’ve been asleep under the f*ckin’ wheel for many, many years. That’s exactly why we took all your f*ckin’ fighters and Floyd beat ‘em all while you’ve been asleep under the f*ckin’ wheel. It’s gonna be no different this Saturday night. Tank Davis by KO, like I’ve been saying, and it might be early,” Ellerbe countered.
Ellerbe and De La Hoya may not have the opportunity to settle their differences on Saturday, but Davis and Garcia will. Both men are set to meet at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 22.
