The last nine months have been interesting for the Detroit rapper known as Eminem. At the end of Marshall Mathers made headlines when he took aim at President Donald Trump during his 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher. Not long after, the Shady Records CEO returned with a new album called Revival featuring Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Ed Sheeran, Pink, Kehlani and more. While the album went straight to number one, it didn’t receive great reviews from fans and critics alike. After the album’s release, Eminem told Billboard, “I think there’s things to be taken away from this album and the reaction to it. Were there too many songs? Were there too many features? There were certain songs like “Tragic Endings” and “Need Me” where I felt like lyrically they would give the listener a second to breathe. I spend a lot of time writing sh*t that I think nobody ever gets.”
Taking time to reflect on the positives and negatives of the last album, Eminem has returned with his second new album in under a year. Adding to a year of releases from Beyonce, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Drake and more, Eminem’s Kamikaze comes in at forty five minutes and thirteen songs featuring Jessie Reyez, Joyner Lucas and more. Among the album’s many topics, Eminem addresses his former artist, Joe Budden, Power 105.1’s Charlamagne Tha God and many more.
