It has truly been a hectic month for Toronto superstar, Drake. Thirty days ago, the October’s Very Own front man found himself involved in one of the most entertaining rap beefs of the last ten years. Beginning with Pusha T’s “Infrared” and ending with J. Prince calling it a draw, the back and forth between Drake and King Push seemingly had critics questioning Drake. However, Drake said, “My hooks did it. My lyrics did it. My spirit did it.” He responded with the video for “I’m Upset” and a feature on 2 Chainz’s single, “Bigger Than You“.
Tonight, he put all of his chips on the table for his newest album, Scorpion. Drake’s fifth studio album is double disc project that contains twenty five tracks. Side A features previously released singles like “God’s Plan” and “I’m Upset”. Side B features records like “Nice For What” and “March 14”. The entire album features production from Murda Beats, 40, Cardo, Boi-1da and Blaqnmild. In addition, the project features previously unreleased samples from the late Static Major and the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson.
Next year will mark the ten year anniversary of the original release of So Far Gone. After nearly ten years in the game, Drake has certainly cemented himself in the memory of Hip-Hop. However, the big question remains, how will he be remembered? Will he be remembered for ghostwriting rumors or will he be remembered for the music? Projects like Scorpion will certainly define his legacy. Check out the album over at Apple Music.
