ESPN has taken over the city of Boulder, Colorado as Deion Sanders and company prepare to play Colorado State on Saturday, September 16. First Take, College GameDay and The Pat McAfee are all stationed in the college city for the weekend. Kicking off the weekend, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson joined Pat McAfee on the set of his live show to talk about his political aspirations, business dealings and much more. As the conversation unfolded, Johnson opened up about a potential WrestleMania match with his cousin, Roman Reigns.
“Was that close?” Pat McAfee inquired about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson going head-to-head with Leati Joseph “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i at WrestleMania XXIX.
“The Rock headlining WrestleMania with Roman Reigns at SoFi Stadium…that was locked. We were doing it. No, we were doing it. We were doing it,” Johnson answered.
Unfortunately, the match never came to fruition because both parties wanted to create something that was unprecedented. As Johnson puts it, he wanted their match to lead to “something bigger,” but neither party was able to figure out what “something bigger” would entail. With that said, Johnson and his cousin, Anoa’i, have not necessarily trashed the idea. During his conversation with McAfee, The Rock hinted at the possibility of sharing the big stage with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XXXX in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania next year.
“There’s a merger coming up. There’s WrestleMania in Philadelphia,” he told McAfee before turning to the crowd.
“What are you saying?” McAfee followed up.
“I’m saying that’s a potential too,” Johnson continued.
