The fighting pride of Newark, New Jersey will make his way to Sin City this November. On November 16, Shakur Stevenson is reportedly set to fight Edwin De Los Santos for the vacant WBC Lightweight Title in Las Vegas. Set for an ESPN broadcast in partnership with Top Rank, the fight will coincide with Formula 1’s highly-anticipated debut on the Las Vegas Strip.
Stevenson, a two-division champion, enters the proposed bout as a heavy betting favorite. The New Jersey native and Olympic silver medalist holds a record of 20-0 with 10 KOs. He last stepped foot in the ring on April 8, 2023 at the Prudential Center. In front of a sold-out crowd in Brick City, the 26-year-old earned a sixth-round TKO victory against the previously unbeaten Japanese contender, Shuichiro Yoshino.
“Most ducked fighter in the sport of boxing,” Stevenson wrote on Instagram.
“Edwin get ready, I’m tired of [you] saying my name.”
Stevenson’s opponent, Edwin De Los Santos, will take on the underdog role. The Dominican fighter boasts a record of 16-1 with 14 knockouts. He suffered his lone professional loss at the hands of William Foster III in 2022. Since then, he’s bounced back with three consecutive victories. Most recently, he beat Joseph Adorno by unanimous decision in July.
