More than 30 years after The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air debuted on NBC, Will Smith and rising talent Morgan Cooper are working to create a dramatic re-imagination of the classic series. Not much is known about how the series’ plot may differ from the original show, but actor Duane Martin has offered a bit of insight to his character. In a recent interview with Essence, the White Men Can’t Jump actor revealed that he will portray a campaign manager working for Uncle Phil.
“I’m there to be a fixer,” he told Essence.
“As you know, Will and Carlton are always getting in trouble. All of these things can affect his campaign. But it’s a complete hardcore drama. It’s not no laugh track. The stakes are heightened.”
Martin’s upcoming work is not limited to Bel-Air. He is also using his life experience as a sports agent to power a new series that is executive produced by Jada Pinkett-Smith.
“A lot of people don’t know I’ve been a sports agent for over 25 years,” Martin explained.
“It’s about my life growing up as a young African-American in a white male-dominated business, trying to be a mentor for some of these young athletes.”
There is no word as to when either series will debut. However, Martin can share that he will star in Real Husbands of Hollywood – More Kevin, More Problems with Kevin Hart this February.
