The San Fransico 49ers have agreed to send a 2020 second-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs for defensive end Dee Ford. San Fransico will also sign the pro bowl defensive lineman to a 5-year $87.5 million deal after the trade becomes official when the NFL’s new year starts tomorrow.
ESPN’s Josina Anderson broke the news of the trade via Twitter.
I'm told Dee Ford is heading to the #49ers, per source.

Anderson also reported the details of Ford’s new deal with the 49ers.
Sounds like the #49ers will give Dee Ford a multi-year deal once the trade becomes official in the line of 5 years/$87.5M, per source. https://t.co/McLKKxheel

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on the specifics of the trade between the 49ers and Chiefs.
The trade is essentially agreed to — Ford for a 2020 2nd round pick. That assumes the #49ers get a deal done with Ford. https://t.co/g4tYK2tWFh

After losing quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to injury, the 49ers finished last season with a 4-12 record and with more questions about their team than at the beginning of the season. In a search for answers, the 49ers have decided that the defense needed to be improved if they wanted to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2013. Trading for Dee Ford and signing linebacker Kwon Alexander will have them well on their way back to winning football regardless of quarterback status.
