Not long after Madonna and Naomi Osaka made their way out to see Gervonta Davis knockout Rolly Romero, the Barclays Center has found its next big showdown. Boxing insider Mike Coppinger of ESPN has reported that Danny Garcia will face off against Jose Benavidez Jr. in super welterweight showdown on July 30, 2022 at the Brooklyn venue.
Both fighters are in a transitional period in their careers. At 34 years old, Garcia is ready to make his super welterweight debut after capturing super lightweight and welterweight titles. However, he has fallen short against top opponents like Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter and Errol Spence Jr. With this fight, he will look to establish himself as a top contender and place himself in the title picture.
Meanwhile, Jose Benavidez Jr. enters the ring with a record of 27-1-1. His lone defeat came back in 2018 when he fought WBC Welterweight Champion Terence Crawford. Since then, the Phoenix has only fought once, a draw with Francisco Emanuel Torres. Now, he will look to get back on track with a win against Garcia.
Garcia and Benavidez Jr. will put it all on the line on July 30, 2022 in Brooklyn, New York at the Barclays Center. The fight is slated to air on Showtime through PBC.
