The Puerto Rican Day Parade is set to take place next weekend in New York, New York. Unfortunately, one of the brightest Puerto Rican boxing stars will not be able to showcase his talents during that weekend. Earlier this week, super welterweight prospect Xander Zayas revealed that he won’t be able to fight on June 11, 2022 as previously scheduled.
“I am sorry to announce that due to illness I was forced to pull out of my fight on June 11th. I have done my best to get well, however, my condition got worse over the past few days forcing me to withdraw at the direction of medical experts,” he said.
“As much as I love this sport and wanted to put on a show at Madison Square Garden for the fans, my health comes first and my team and I had to make the difficult decision to postpone this fight. I want to thank everyone for all of the support and love. As soon as I am healthy, I will return to doing what I love.”
In Zayas’ absence, junior lightweight prospect Henry Lebron has been upgraded to co-feature status. The 24-year-old Puerto Rican southpaw has a record of 15-0 with 10 knockouts. Back in March, he stopped Josec Ruiz in the seventh round of an eight round bout.
Despite Zayas’ absence, the main feature will remain the same. Super middleweight contender Edgar Berlanga will fight Roamer Alexis Angulo at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden. The bout will be televised on ESPN with Top Rank leading the way.
