For years, the world of boxing has known that Gervonta “Tank” Davis is a star. Tonight, the world at large confirmed what combat sports fans have known for some time. He’s not just a man. Rather, he’s a movement.
After falling behind on at least one judge’s scorecard, Davis landed a check left hook that sent Romero stumbling to the ground. Romero found his way to his feet, but the referee stopped the bout before the Las Vegas native could continue. The crowd erupted as Pop Smoke’s “Dior” blared through the sound system. Looking around, fans, celebrities and fellow fighters were in awe of the moment.
“Nobody better…. That left is a missle. Stay away,” Kevin Durant tweeted about the knockout.
“I knew it was over once Tank walked in the ring with the mini fro. Tank ain’t no damn boxer! He’s a damn killer,” Kendrick Perkins commented.
“Dropped dude. Gervonta the truth stop playin,” Lamar Jackson added.
Inside the Barclays Center, Madonna, Naomi Osaka, Tracy Morgan and Michael Strahan were among those in attendance. At home, Denzel Curry, Tyrann Mathieu and Claressa Shields were tweeting about the fight. To top it all off, Davis’s most recent showdown with Rolando Romero was the number one trending topic in the nation during the wee hours of the morning.
Gervonta Davis has taken his shown on the road to Los Angeles, Atlanta, Brooklyn and San Antonio over the last few years. With a number of major fights in play, it’ll be interesting to see where he goes next.
