Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn will fight at a catchweight on October 8, 2022 at The O2 in London.
Chris Eubank Jr. enters the October showdown with a record of 32-2 with 23 knockouts. His two professional losses have come at the hands of former super middleweight champions Billy Joe Saunders and George Groves, but he has managed to become a champion in two weight classes himself. Hist most recent win came back in February as he earned a unanimous decision victory against Liam Williams.
Conor Benn enters the catchweight bout with a record of 21-0 with 14 knockouts. The U.K. fighter has emerged alongside Jaron “Boots” Ennis and Vergil Ortiz as one of the top three contenders ready to challenge Terence Crawford or Errol Spence Jr. However, it appears that the two will fight each other in mid to late November of this year. As a result, Benn, along with Ennis and Ortiz, have been forced to look for other fights this fall.
Benn and Eubank Jr.’s clash is amplified by the history that their fathers share. In 1990, Chris Eubank captured his first world title by stopping Nigel Benn in the ninth round of a hotly contested bout. Three years later, the two fought two a draw as they looked to capture the WBC and WBO Super Middleweight Championships. Nearly twenty-nine years to the day of their last fight, their sons will share the ring for the first time.
“This fight is for the legacy and was an opportunity I felt I couldn’t pass up,” Benn said.
“To me this fight is personal – it’s more than titles and rankings, this is unfinished business between our families!”
