According to an exclusive article from Variety, both Charlie Sheen (Two and a Half Men) and Whoopi Goldberg will be starring in the indie drama Nine Eleven. The month-long production began on Monday, and the drama will be shot entirely at Thunder Studios in Long Beach. The official synopsis for Nine Eleven, as provided by The Hollywood Reporter, is as follows:
“Nine Eleven revolves around five individuals trapped in an elevator in the World Trade Center during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and their struggle to survive.”
Martin Guigui, who last directed the video short Rock Candy Funk Party: Groove Is King, is on board Nine Eleven as both director and co-writer. He and Steven Golebiowski reportedly worked with survivors and victims’ family members to pen the script, which is adapted from an off-Broadway play.
The New York Daily News quoted executive producer Mark Burg for more insight on the film:
“It’s a beautiful story of faith, hope and survival. Hopefully people will look at this as an homage to the brave firefighters and rescue workers who gave up their lives so that other people could escape.”
Nine Eleven marks Charlie Sheen’s first major role since he came out with the announcement of his HIV affliction last November. The film will also star Luis Guzman, Wood Harris, and Olga Fonda. Thunder Studios, Sprockefeller Pictures, Vitamin A Films, and Sunset Pictures are producing the drama.
