On Tuesday, May 14, Caitlin Clark made her WNBA debut as a member of the Indiana Fever. In 32 minutes of action, the first overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft poured in a team-high 20 points and recorded three assists, but turned the ball over a record-breaking 10 times. At the end of four quarters, the Fever found themselves down 71-92 against the Connecticut Sun. After her first taste of regular season WNBA action, the former University of Iowa standout said she’s ready to “learn from [her WNBA debut] and move on.”
“I’m disappointed, and nobody likes to lose, but I don’t think you can beat yourself up too much about one game,” Clark told reporters.
“I don’t think that’s going to help this team.”
Clark was not the only member of the Fever who struggled in the season opener. Last year’s number one overall pick, Aaliyah Boston, finished with four points and six rebounds. However, Nalyssa Smith was able to provide a bit of sunshine with a 13-point, nine-rebound performance.
The Fever won’t have much time to dwell on their season opening loss. Indiana will return to the midwest for their home opener against the New York Liberty on Thursday before traveling out to New York on Saturday.
