The Brooklyn Nets will retire Vince Carter’s number during the 2024-2025 season. Carter will join Jason Kidd, Drazen Petrovic, John Williamson, Bill Melchionni, Buck Williams and Julius Erving as one of only seven Nets’ stars to have their number retired.
“It’s official: We’re raising Vince Carter’s jersey to the rafters next season,” the Nets tweeted.
Carter spent five years as a member of the New Jersey Nets. During his run at Continental Airlines Arena, he averaged nearly 23 points per game while shooting 36% from beyond the arc. His play propelled New Jersey to two second-round playoff appearances, but his tenure with the team came to an end in 2009 when he was traded to the Orlando Magic. In return, East Rutherford welcomed Rafer Alston, Tony Battie and Courtney Lee.
After leaving the Nets, he spent time in Orlando, Phoenix, Dallas, Sacramento, Memphis and Atlanta. With more than 1,500 games played and 22 seasons completed, Carter finished as the only NBA player to ever compete in four different decades.
