Brownsville native Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington is planning a trip upstate later this month. The rising featherweight prospect will reportedly return to the ring on January 14, 2023 in Verona, New York at Turning Stone Resort Casino. The undefeated prospect is expected to share the ring with Juan Antonio Lopez throughout a six-round bout. Carrington-Lopez will add to an ESPN and Top Rank event headlined by heavyweights Efe Ajagba and Stephan Shaw.
Carrington enters his sixth bout with a perfect record of 5-0 with three knockouts. His next opponent, Juan Antonio Lopez, is an 11-year pro from Texas with a record of 17-12-1 with seven knockouts. In 2022, he fought five times while putting together a record of 1-3-1.
“I had an exciting 2022, but it’s time to step on the gas even more in 2023 and take over the featherweight division. I can’t wait to put my hands on somebody because I couldn’t fight on December 10,” Carrington said, per Boxing Scene.
“This is going to be a huge year, and it starts on January 14.”
