BET+ has reportedly acquired the rights to the forthcoming, animated superhero series, Trill League.
“[The show] tells the story of a team of Black superheroes battling against each other’s self-indulgences in order to combat the villains of today’s cultural conflicts and protect society,” the show’s description reads, according to Deadline.
Prior to its recent acquisition, Trill League was in development at Quibi. At BET+, the series will be co-written by Leann Bowen and the comic’s original creator, Anthony Piper. Alongside Bowen and Piper, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s G-Unit Film & Television, 3 Arts Entertainment and Lionsgate Television will serve as producers.
BET+’s acquisition of Trill League comes just a few weeks after Jackson celebrated his departure from Starz. While Jackson will continue developing projects within the Power universe and BMF for the premium cable network, he now has more flexibility to explore options at other networks and streaming services.
“[September 17, 2022 is the first] official day of really owning my content and decided where and how I do it moving forward,” 50 Cent wrote on Instagram.
“This is my vibe right now! [My] STARZ deal [is] done. We had nothing, but success so [there are] no hard feelings. I’m out. I’ll let you know where we are going shortly.”
