To the delight of boxing fans in New York, Teofimo Lopez will challenge Sandor Martin at Madison Square Garden on December 10. Two months later, DAZN may offer another treat for fight fans across the Big Apple. Boxing Scene has indicated that Most Valuable Promotions and Matchroom Boxing hope to bring Amanda Serrano and Alycia Baumgardner to New York on February 4, 2023.
Initial reports suggest Amanda Serrano will fight Erika Cruz for the undisputed featherweight title in New York on February 4. Joining Serrano, Matchroom Boxing hopes to feature Alycia Baumgardner in an undisputed super featherweight title bout against Hyun Mi Choi.
“We’re trying to negotiate that,” Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing told Boxing Scene.
“We’d love to do that fight on the same card as Serrano-Cruz. Unfortunately, Choi might not be ready for that early February date.”
New York is no stranger to women’s boxing. In April, Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor competed in a hotly contested lightweight title bout. Supported by a sold-out crowd in Madison Square Garden, Taylor earned a split-decision victory and improved her record to 21-0.
Details regarding a specific venue are still being sorted out. More information will be shared in the coming weeks.
