A new era is ushering in for the Atlanta Hawks. Dennis Schröder is now officially the starting point guard since Jeff Teague was traded to Indiana.
Al Horford is no longer the starting center as he chose to sign a max deal with the Boston Celtics in free agency. That job now belongs to Dwight Howard, who has been talking about bringing a championship to his home city of Atlanta.
The Hawks re-signed shooting guard Kent Bazemore to a four-year deal, while the rest of the roster remains intact with veteran role players.
Last season the Hawks went 48-34, good for fourth place in the East. In the postseason they beat the Boston Celtics in six games, but were swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the conference semifinals. They will kick off the 2016-17 season against the Washington Wizards on October 27th. Al Horford returns to ‘Hot-lanta’ for the first time on January 13th. Other notables for the Hawks include their first matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers on November 8th in Cleveland, Dwight Howard’s return to Houston on February 2nd and an end of the season matchup with the Indiana Pacers which could influence some playoff positions.
