Future has found himself atop of the world yet again with his ninth studio album, I Never Liked You. Not only did the project top the Billboard 200 Chart, but it also spawned Future’s first number one hit as a lead artist. With help of Tems and Drake, “Wait For U” has become one of the biggest hits of the year thus far. However, the song’s co-producer, ATL Jacob, says that the song was nearly a Kanye West single.
“What’s crazy is before ‘Wait For U’ came out, that was one of [Kanye’s] favorite songs,” ATL Jacob told B High TV.
“He was like, ‘Man, this record crazy!’ So we was trying some stuff on it but you know, we just ain’t get to the point where we actually finished [the song].”
Future and Kanye West have worked closely together within the last year. Future executive produced Kanye West’s most recent project, Donda 2. In return, Kanye West appeared on I Never Like You. Next month, the two stars will headline Rolling Loud in Miami, Florida alongside Kendrick Lamar.
As for ATL Jacob, he’s in high-demand as well. Not only did he produce a handful of tracks on Future’s I Never Liked You, but he also produced Kodak Black’s chart-topping hit, “Super Gremlin.” Check out his complete interview with B High TV below for the full scoop on how “Wait For U” came to be.
