There are major changes coming to the world black-ish in the very near future. The most notable change will happen behind the scenes as black-ish creator, Kenya Barris, heads to Netflix. In addition, the second half of grown-ish‘s sophomore season will kick off this summer with the addition of Junior played by Marcus Scribner. Not to mention, the parent series has just been renewed for a sixth season. Now, our attention has shifted to another major development in the growing black-ish franchise.
ABC has officially ordered another black-ish spin-off series called mixed-ish. The new series will act as a prequel series for black-ish character Rainbow Johnson played by Tracee Ellis Ross. Mixed-ish will tell the story of how Rainbow grew up in a mixed-race household with less than traditional parents during the 1980’s. As reported by Deadline, the series will star Arica Himmel, Tika Sumpter, Christina Anthony, Mykal-Michelle Harris and Ethan Childress. Behind the scenes, Kenya Barris, Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross and a bevy of others will serve as the show’s executive producers.
The series doesn’t have an official premiere date, but ABC is expected to include an episode exclusively about Rainbow’s childhood during the next season of black-ish.
