Kenya Barris has had an interesting run over the last few weeks. A few weeks ago, Eddie Murphy announced that Barris would be a part of the team putting together the highly anticipated Coming To America sequel. Then, Barris got the news that his reboot of Bewitched would be shelved until 2020. Meanwhile, he’s working on wrapping up the fifth season of Black-ish. With all of that going on, he received a bit of good news from Freeform about his series, Grown-ish.
Freeform has announced that they will renew Grown-ish for a third season. The series has had a respectable run this year with an average of 556,000 viewers each week, which typically results in a 0.2 rating. However, that rating can double over the week with delayed viewership. The show is currently preparing for episode seven of its twenty episode run this year.
In addition to Grown-ish, Barris also made some major developments in his next Freeform project, Besties. The new show led by Barris will star Jordin Sparks in the role of Becca, an ambitious teen who unearths information about her birth mother and learns she has a half-sister.
Besties is still in production and Grown-ish will continue its second season run on February 7th at 9 p.m. on Freeform.
